No.... Georgina I am not a nun!!
WHAT A WEEK!!!!! I have found that every single minute of the mission field is exciting or weird in some way. There is no such thing as a normal day, and I LOVE IT!!
Awkward stories so for some fun stories from this week... we got asked a few times if we were practicing to be nuns lol.. And the people who asked us were super shocked when we told them we weren't, but a great conversation came from it, so that was GOOD! We are teaching this wonderful family from India and after our lesson, the mother left and brought back these huge plates of food and told us to eat up. It was very authentic Indian food and to be honest I couldn't tell you what it was. But she pointed to some meat on the side of my plate and said this is fish, use your hands.... And I didn't understand what she was saying, and felt weird eating with my hands so I used my spoon.. lol and then I swallowed the most INTERESTING tasting mystery meat that was not fish, to find 3 little fish bones stuck in my throat. This little bite of fish dang near sent me to my grave... but it didn't, haha so I then dug in with my hands and finished the mystery plate. I think sister Grant and I had 3 different dinners that night!
Another awkward moment. We went to visit a potential investigator and when he opened the door he was only in a bright red bathrobe. He invited us in and we talked about God and why our church is so special while he was just chilling in his bathrobe. The only problem with this is that after like 10 minutes bathrobes move and become loose, by the end of our visit his hairy chest and half of his belly was fully exposed. I don't think I have even been so uncomfy...
Last fun little story.. we ate dinner with a kind man named John and some members. However, John got out of jail this week and wanted to make a home cooked meal for us. So we went over and he insisted that I try this salsa he made. And he made a little comment about it being hot, but I figured I could handle it. So I take this MASSIVE fork full of salsa. I have never EVER had anything hotter in my mouth. I tried to play it off cool.. but I felt my whole body just melting under this salsa. Then he takes the fork I had and starts eating the salsa out of the bowl, then continues to tell me this was his snack at work. So.. only was the salsa hotter than the noonday sun... I shared a fork with a toothless X-convict. Then this SAME salsa dish WAS passed around at dinner.. And everyone ate it. haha, I love it here so much. It's been a solid week.
Spiritual: I love being a missionary. I love teaching people about Jesus Christ and I feel so incredibly honored to represent my savior every day. We have had a lot of good conversations this week about God and how much he truly loves us. I was studying 1 Nephi 17 and it talks about Lamen and Lemuel hardening their hearts against God and against Nephi. AGAIN. And Nephi reminds his brothers how much they have been blessed. They have seen angels, been lead by the liahona, gotten food and water, the list literally goes on for a long time. Then Nephi points out what they are missing because they have hardened their hearts. They are "past the point of feeling." It made me think how often are we past the point of feeling? When we look back on our lives and see how much the Lord has truly blessed us, and continues to bless us. However, we don't see his hand in our life because we too are "past feeling." I have made a goal this week to try and count how many times I see the Lords hand in my life every day. Its been CRAZY to see how much he does for me and I know I only catch a little bit. God is so incredibly good. He blesses us so much. Don't forget to look for his hand in your life... and never let yourself get past feeling. That's when things get scary. I love you all. Have a wonderful week. Happy 4th of July.

Some sweet ladies from the ward took us to the Gilroy Gardens. They were so beautiful. Its beautiful grounds with roller coasters and splash pads and all sorts of fun things! And we got permission to ride the roller coasters so the 4 of us looked at all the flowers and rode a bunch of rides! It was so fun! We actually saw the mission president there! |
