July 8, 2019
Well this weeks been another awesome week for a few of my favorite highlights
1. Our member introduced us to Popusas. There is an awesome popusa truck and the first time we went we made friends with the food truck ladies. Then the next day we needed dinner so we called the ladies and they were in the same place and we rolled up on our bikes and they were so excited to see us they kept bringing us extra waters and popusas. Needless to say, sister Ferrell and I and the Popusa ladies are bffs 🤞
2. We met with Joey a man we've been teaching. He started out as an atheist, however this week when we met he was asking all about Jesus Christ and what the point of baptism is, and how he can grow his faith. It was a complete 180 from our past lessons and we are so excited.
3. The 4th of July was a strait up party. We started out with a ward breakfast and had lots of people were teaching come, then we went to a Zone Council and had a a super awesome discussion about faith, and leaving our burdens at the saviors feet. Then we bounced around to different 4th of July parties then ended up at the coolest place to watch fireworks. We had a member in our ward invite us to her business which is a boat shaped building with a birds eye view of the whole area. So we got to see about 30 different firework shows while chatting with her friends. It was awesome!!!
While I was reading Ether 6 this week something powerful grabbed my attention. This is the story of the Brother of Jared and how he was commanded to make these big barges to sail to the promised land. However he had 2 great problems. 1. No fresh air, 2. There was no light. When he went to the lord he gave him the answer for the fresh air, and made the Brother of Jared figure out how to provide light. The brother of Jared was a mighty man with great faith so he made beautiful stones, acknowledged his weakness before the lord, then asked the lord to touch them. Now many miracles followed his mighty faith, and in Ether 12:12 we learn how God will always try our faith before he blesses us with a miracle. Now the Brother of Jared was a mighty and faithful man but his trials didnt stop there. In chapter 6 we read about the mighty mountain waves that crashed on these barges and forced them into the depths of the ocean. These waves came from the mouth of the lord. This made made me think a little... why would God make their journey so rough? Lets all think about it. One thing we know is that the lord prepared them, they were in sturdy barges with light and air. We also know that the lord gives us weakness and challenges so we will be humble and rely on him (Ether 12:27). My 2 favorite versus in chapter 6 though is verse 7 and 9 where the people cried unto the lord in praise and thanksgiving. Even when they were in the depths of the Ocean, they were grateful, and the lord brought them out on top. We either find ourselves in the depths of the ocean or on top of the waves, or maybe somewhere in between, but theres a few things we need to remember.
1. The lord has prepared us and knows exactly where we are.
2. Were all on a journey to the promised land, and its going to be windy, but it will be worth it.
3. When we are grateful we will always end up on top.
Have the most wonderful week.
